Update 2:30 p.m.: Normal operations have resumed at Thoreau Middle School.
"Staff reacted swiftly and appropriately, and our students behaved in an exemplary manner. At no time was anyone on school property in any danger," Thoreau Principal Greg Hood said in an email to parents of the school's "secure the building" mode.
Original 2:18 p.m.: Vienna Police are investigating a Tuesday robbery at in the Cedar Park Shopping Center.
Fairfax County K-9 and helicopter units have responded to assist in the investigation, VPD Officer Bill Murray said.
The bank was robbed around 12:55 p.m., Murray said. Police have not yet released information on whether the bank, at 260 Cedar Lane SE, was robbed by one or multiple suspects, if they were armed or if anyone was injured in the event.
Neighboring has been placed under lockdown during the investigation. Murray said it is not clear what time the lockdown will end or how it will affect afternoon dismissal.
Thoreau staff member Donna Fernandez said the school's grounds are secured so nobody can enter or exit the building.
