Police Arrest Suspect in Post Office Robbery

Alexandria Police have charged Darryl Franks, 58, of Washington D.C., with Robbery in connection to the Jan. 10 robbery of a U.S. Post Office. 

Franks was arrested in Washington D.C. on Feb. 10 and is awaiting extradition.

The robbery occurred Jan. 10 at the U.S. Post Office in the 1900 block of Mount Vernon Avenue.  At around 4:15 p.m., a man entered the post office and implied that he had a weapon. He demanded money and fled after receiving currency. No one was injured.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5’8” to 5’10” with a thin build. The suspect was wearing a black mask, green military style jacket and red or brown utility pants.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service was offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect who robbed this post office. No word on whether anyone may be collecting on the reward.
