A 68-year-old man was taken to Inova Alexandria Hospital for minor injuries Wednesday morning after a car struck him while he was crossing Mount Vernon Avenue, according to Alexandria police.
The incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. when the pedestrian crossed Mount Vernon Avenue at the crosswalk at Four Mile Road in Arlandria and was struck by a car turning left onto northbound Mount Vernon Avenue, according to Alexandria police.

The driver was charged with failure to yield right of way.
One Alexandria resident tweeted that the man was struck by a taxicab. Police did not say if the vehicle was a taxi.
The incident briefly blocked Mount Vernon Avenue in both directions Wednesday morning.
