Updated: Fire Crews Respond to Incident in Arlandria

Residents evacuated from Brookside apartment; no injuries reported.

2:25 p.m. update — An Alexandria Fire Department spokesperson said firefighters "found a small, smoldering fire" in a confined space in the Brookside apartment building.

The spokesperson said there were no injuries and that no residents are displaced because of the fire.

The DASH bus on the scene was not there to transport residents, but to give them temporary shelter while firefighters made sure the building was safe for re-entry.

Fire crews from Alexandria and Arlington responded to an incident Wednesday morning in the Brookside apartment building on Four Mile Road in Arlandria.

Two trucks had ladders extended to the roof around 11:30 a.m. as evacuated residents looked on from surrounding sidewalks. Firefighters were seen working on the roof of the building.

Smoke was reported throughout the five-story building.

One resident said the alarm went off around 9:30 a.m. A DASH bus arrived around 11:45 a.m. to transport displaced residents.

No injuries were initially reported.
