UPDATED: Carbon Monoxide Leak Sends Three Children to Hospital

Alexandria Fire Department reports to Ancell Street home

Three children were taken to the hospital early Monday morning following the discovery of a carbon monoxide leak in a home on Ancell Street in Warwick Village. 

According to a release from the Alexandria Fire Department, units responded to a sickness call on Ancell Street shortly before 7 a.m. Department workers discovered several residents complaining of headaches and nausea, which are common signs of acute carbon monoxide poisoning. A carbon monoxide detector was sounding in an adjacent town home when officials arrived. Elevated levels of carbon monoxide were discovered in three dwellings on the block.

An Alexandria Fire Department official on the scene said "a few people were taken to the hospital" because they "had symptoms" of carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to the official release from the Alexandria Fire Department, the cause of the incident remains under investigation.

However, the official on the scene said the home's furnace was to blame for the leak and that contractors were called in to make repairs. Washington Gas trucks arrived on the block shortly after 9 a.m.

All three homes were ventilated and the carbon monoxide levels were returned to normal.

Fire department officials were working primarily out of the town home located at 9 Ancell Street around 9 a.m. Monday morning.

Several neighbors declined to comment on the incident.

A faulty furnace was to blame for making Sunday afternoon in Reston.
