The Alexandria Police Department has recently seen an increase in reports of items stolen from shopping carts while victims were shopping at stores in Potomac Yard Center, including Target, Shoppers, and T.J. Maxx, police said in a news release Friday.

Police are offering the following tips:

• Keep your purse closed.
• Carry only items that are needed.
