Alexandria Police, Fire Respond to Incident at Mason Arms

Man discovered with drug paraphernalia during response to smoke in E. Mason Avenue apartment building.

Alexandria police and fire departments responded to an incident in the Mason Arms apartment building in the 200 block of E. Mason Avenue late Tuesday evening.

Around 11:30 p.m., smoke was reported in the building, which is located near the dealership. Tuesday. According to Alexandria Police spokesperson Ashley Hildebrandt, officials saw smoke coming out from an apartment door, broke it down and found food burning on a stove.

An unidentified male was found on the floor unconscious “for some other reason” than the smoke, Hildebrandt said.

“When [officers] went into the apartment, they found drug paraphernalia,” Hildebrandt said.

Hildebrandt said she believed the paraphernalia was related to marijuana and not cocaine or another illegal substance.

The man was taken from the scene in handcuffs because of the discovery of the paraphernalia, Hildebrandt said.
