While I spend most of my dinners in the restaurants of Del Ray, one of the best is . Sapore offers traditional Italian menu selections at reasonable prices. This is one of the more affordable restaurants in all of Del Ray.
You can start your meal with a basket homemade garlic bread. A generous portion costs just $3. You then move on to the delicious house salad, a mix of crisp lettuce and granny smith apples finished with a homemade, secret recipe dressing.
For the main course, I would suggest one of the daily specials or my personal favorite, the chicken parmesan. This dish is perfectly balanced; lightly breaded chicken is soaked in a house-made marinara and finished with gooey mozzarella cheese.
The wonderful thing about Sapore is that it doesn’t just offer exceptional food but a well-rounded dining experience. The atmosphere is very "mom and pop" and the staff recognizes you after only a few visits. They are always willing to offer suggestions or make accommodations to dishes. After a couple of visits, I am constantly surprised that there isn’t a larger crowd. Although, this does add to the calm and relaxing escape Sapore offers.
Sapore also provides an excellent kids menu with an array of options that keep it cheap and simple, but not as mundane as the boilerplate chicken tenders or pasta with marinara that so many restaurants limit kids to.
For adults, the wine list is decent, affordable and the staff is available to offer pairing with any of the dishes.
The restaurant recently received approval from the city to construct a canopy over its outdoor patio. Also, Sapore now offers delivery service after 4 p.m.
If you don’t feel like cooking but want to try something a little different, while assuring you get an awesome meal at a great price, stop by. Tell them I sent you!
