To the editor,
Alexandria has many opportunities in the coming years to continue to attract people from around the nation and globe. To achieve its real potential, those opportunities need to be nurtured, pursued and optimized.
The greatest resource of Alexandria is the expertise of its citizens. Amongst our population, we have experts in transportation, environmental stewardship, development, law and public health. Alexandria needs a councilman who will not only listen to these citizens, but seek them out.
That man is John Taylor Chapman.
No one sitting in City Hall is a greater expert on the addition of a restaurant to your community than the people living in that community. Some things are more apparent, like the need for more emergency response stations in Del Ray and the West End based on lagged response times but other issues that need addressed by council are less apparent.
I've known John for a year and have found that he is one of the most dedicated people to community engagement. As former NAACP president and youth policy commission vice-chairman, amidst a host of other resume credentials, John has become a vital part of Alexandria's civil society. In all his professional and personal roles, John continues to pursue the best course of action for the city and our community.
John's enthusiasm for community engagement made me want to become more involved in the community and the political process.
Over the last few days, candidates have been knocking on your doors and calling your telephone. It is important that we elect a candidate who will continue that outreach once elected and not just when it’s time to be re-elected.
That candidate is John Taylor Chapman.
