To the editor,
To our Alexandria friends in District A, there's an excellent slate of candidates for School Board in the Nov. 6 election. We are fortunate to have such a wealth of choices in our district. You can vote for up to three. We encourage everyone to learn more about the candidates. One good resource is now online: the candidates submitted written responses to the questions from the Del Ray Citizens Association debate. Their responses were published and voted on by a group of 15 Alexandria residents.
But to add to that, we encourage you to vote for Karen Graf.
We support Karen Graf for School Board for Alexandria's District A. Here's why:
Karen looks out for all of Alexandria's kids. We've witnessed Karen's focus and perseverance in ensuring that the best materials are available to children of all backgrounds, whether it's building a library of high-quality literature and non-fiction books or ensuring that field trips and other enrichment activities are available to more than the privileged few.
Karen is not afraid to ask hard questions. Karen isn't content to swallow the party line. She wants to know the why's and how's of ACPS policies and she isn't shy about asking tough questions, doing the hard work of digging for answers and, based on that new evidence, laying out what needs to change.
Karen recognizes the importance of listening to teachers and community members. Policies that affect thousands of school children and their families will not be successful if they are enacted by fiat. Karen will focus on ensuring that decision-making processes are clear, methodical, focused on common goals and evaluated to allow for continuous improvement.
Our school is better because of Karen's dedication and push for excellence. With Karen on School Board, our district will be better, too. As you cast one of your three votes for District A, make one of them for Karen Graf.
