Chabad Lubavitch Hosting Hanukkah Festival

Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille to assist in lighting of a 6-foot Menorah.

Chabad Lubavitch of Alexandria-Arlington is inviting the community to celebrate Hanukkah at a public Menorah-lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (901 N. Fairfax St.).

Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille will be participating in the lighting of the 6-foot Menorah. 

Following the kindling ceremony, hot latkes and doughnuts will be served for free.

"We want people to 'taste' the tradition," Rabbi Mordechai Newman, director of Chabad Lubavitch, said in a press release. 

The program will also feature professional family entertainment, free Hanukkah raffle for a Nook HD, gifts and treats, Hanukkah music and more.

"It is a holiday that enriches our lives with the light of tradition," Newman said. "In ancient times our ancestors rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem with the Menorah. Today, we rededicate ourselves to making this world a better and brighter place."
