Bike to Work Day is Friday

Choose from three pit stops in the City of Alexandria, but there are many spots to choose from across the DC metro area.

National Bike Week begins Monday and culminates Friday with National Bike to Work Day.

Online registration is open for Friday's event in the DC area, and the City of Alexandria has three pit stops to choose from in Carlyle, Mark Center and Old Town.

Free T-shirts will be available for the first 12,000 registrants who are in attendance at the pit stop where they are registered.

Many more Washington, DC-area communities are participating in the May 17 event.

In Alexandria, there will be pit stops Friday at Market Square in front of City Hall, Mark Center at the east side of the north parking garade and in John Carlyle Square Park at 300 John Carlyle St.

The League of American Bicyclists began Bike to Work Day in 1956 as part of Bike to Work month.
