Composting Workshop at Greenstreet Gardens

Bettering the global environment starts in your own backyard. Dr. Francis Gouin covers all the aspects of turning yard and kitchen waste into a rich, nutritious amendment for your soil. Nothing is better for your garden than homemade compost!

Dr. Frank Gouin is a plant physiologist who taught and conducted research at the University of Maryland for 33 years until his retirement almost twenty years ago. But he did not retire from gardening and has had many accomplishments over the years include cloning the Wye Oak and developing a hot-sauce animal repellent, thermal blankets for container-grown winter ornamentals, and Osmocote 18-6-12. That’s on top of his findings about composting, the subject he’s researched for more than forty years and for which he’s best known.  He set up the compost system for Disney World, which now composts and reuses 80 percent of its waste. Dr. Gouin resides, surrounded by his many gardens, in his riverside home in Deale.
