New Poll Shows McAuliffe with 17-Point Lead Over Cuccinelli

Former President Bill Clinton to campaign for McAuliffe Sunday in Dale City.

A new poll out Tuesday shows Democrat Terry McAuliffe 17 points ahead of rival Republican Ken Cuccinelli in the Virginia governor's race.

That's 10 points ahead of what a Christopher Newport U poll showed last week.

The poll conducted for Rasmussen Reports shows McAuliffe with 50 percent to Cuccinelli's 33 percent. Libertarian Robert Sarvis comes in at 8 percent.

The survey for Rasmussen Reports was conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC; the firm polled 1,000 "likely voters" Sunday in Virginia.

Rasmussen Reports notes that the poll came after campaigning by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Saturday in Falls Church and after the federal government shutdown.

Former President Bill Clinton will campaign for McAuliffe Sunday in Dale City at the VFW Post 1503 - 14631, Minnieville Road. Free tickets will be available Wednesday at the Democratic Party of Virginia Office, 4349 Ridgewood Center Drive, Suite 102 in Woodbridge.

Cuccinelli and McAuliffe will meet in a debate Thursday in Blacksburg at Virginia Tech. Sarvis did not meet requirements to participate, organizers said.
