Krupicka Re-Elected to House of Delegates

Incumbent Democrat Rob Krupicka claims 73.7 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

Democrat Rob Krupicka was re-elected to the 45th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Krupicka, a former member of the Alexandria City Council and State Board of Education, claimed 73.7 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Virginia State Board of Elections.

Independent candidate Jeffrey Engle was Krupicka’s lone challenger. A decorated combat veteran running for public office for the first time, Engle claimed 25.2 percent of the vote.

Krupicka served just one session in Richmond after winning a special election created by David Englin’s resignation a year ago.

He said Tuesday night at the Alexandria Democratic Committee’s party at Café Pizzaiolo in Cameron Station that his election to a full term will allow him to approach his legislative agenda a little differently.

“I get to think about how do I plant seeds that come together over a couple years,” he said. “It allows me to be more strategic.”

The Del Ray resident said he plans to continue focusing on education and mental health issues in the state house.

“I plan to interject myself on every educational issue,” he said, adding that he will push for high stakes testing reform and new early childhood services.

He said education is one of the chief economic issues facing the state. Improvements and investments will help secure high tech jobs for the future, he said.

Krupicka said he plans to continue to work on mental health treatment services through the state budget process, focusing on improving suicide prevention programs and seeking new services in prisons, where he said mental health conditions are prevalent.

And as the state continues to debate its use of transportation money, Krupicka said it’s important Virginia pursues projects that will produce “the best bang for the buck.”
