Weekend Planner: Knitting, Tea and a Scavenger Hunt

  • Why Go: Bring your current knit or crochet project and watch the movie "Jaws" with fellow crafters.

2012 Serenade! Festival “Opening Celebration”

  • Where: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Alexandria
  • When: Friday at 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Featuring performances by choirs from Canada, Colombia, Australia and the United States. The welcome address will be given by Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille.
  • Price: FREE.

Live Stand Up Comedy Night

  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, Lorton
  • When: Friday at 8 p.m.
  • Why Go: Comedians scheduled to appear are Jeff Maurer, Kat Radley and Rahmen Mostafavi. Due to the mature subject matter of the performances, this event is for adults only. 
  • Price: $12 per person. 

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"

  • Where: Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Alexandria
  • When: Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m. (Additional shows through July 8).
  • Why Go: ACCT presents Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular musical inspired by the biblical tale of Joseph and his famous coat of many colors. 
  • Price: Adults $18. Children and senior citizens $15.

American Doll Tea

  • Why Go: Young girls and the young at heart will enjoy a patriotic tea and tour with their favorite doll.

Family Day with Scavenger Hunt

  • Where: Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, Alexandria
  • When: Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Learn all about this historic tavern from “Junior Docents,” and then participate in an architectural scavenger hunt of nearby buildings.  Return your completed form to be entered into a prize drawing.
  • Price: Adults $5, children $3.
