Report: Still No Reopening Date for Harris Teeter

S. Glebe Road grocery store has been closed since the spring because of interior flooding.

The Harris Teeter grocery store located at 3600 S. Glebe Road just north of Alexandria will remain closed for the foreseeable future, according to ARLnow.

The store closed in May after a sewage backup caused interior flooding. It was determined the backup was caused by a clog at the nearby Arlington County Water Pollution Control Plan.

A Harris Teeter representative told Patch in August that the store would reopen but offered no firm date.

A Harris Teeter spokeswoman told ARLnow the store will not reopen until the company can be assured that measures are in place to prevent another sewage incident.

“We are actively working with both the county and our landlord to discuss solutions to make sure that which happened does not happen again,” company spokeswoman Danna Jones told ARLnow. “Once those solutions are implemented, we are ready to start work on the interior of the store, and at that point, Harris Teeter will make various public announcements to share the good news with everyone.”

ARLnow reported that no lawsuits have been brought against Arlington County in response to the sewage incident.

If you're missing Harris Teeter, the grocery store has locations in the West End (4641 Duke St., Alexandria), Shirlington (4250 Campbell Ave., Arlington) and Pentagon Row (900 Army Navy Dr., Arlington).

A new Harris Teeter that will be part of a mixed-use development in North Old Town is currently under construction.
