A look at the top stories along the GW Parkway

Del Ray is a beloved community, but few have the luxury of working, living and playing exclusively within the neighborhood. Recognizing this, we're going to take a weekly look at some of the top stories on the other Patch sites up and down the George Washington Parkway corridor. We're calling it Parkway Dispatches and we'll start north in Georgetown and work our way south to Mount Vernon.

GEORGETOWN — It's the close of 2010, but what opened in Georgetown throughout the year?  Here's a list of eight of our favorite new businesses, and two we're sad to see depart.

CLARENDON—A 20-year-old Army private stationed at Fort Myer was found unconscious in his barracks on Dec. 16 at around 9 a.m.

OLD TOWN — Alexandria Police detectives have charged two men in separate burglaries after investigating two burglaries at businesses on Duke Street that occurred in November.

HUNTINGTON — Around 7 p.m. Tuesday night a car crashed into Pilar's Restaurant near the intersection of Huntington Avenue and Biscayne Drive.

FORT HUNT — Mount Vernon Unitarian Church unveiled a new solar-powered energy system Tuesday, which could make it the first church in Virginia to not draw from the electricity grid.

MOUNT VERNON — With the influx of 3,400 new jobs to Fort Belvoir, transportation upgrades are urgent, stressed four federal elected officials in a December 13 letter to Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.
