Take one incredible backyard, really delicious food from local chefs and a group of generous and supportive neighbors and you have the makings for a fabulous fall party. The Fabulous Fall Fundraiser is happening this weekend in Del Ray (November 3, 6-9 pm) and we want to see you there!
The event is one of the Mount Vernon Community School PTA’s biggest fundraisers. Last year’s event was a rousing success and once again we can’t wait to dine on the food catered by Evening Star Cafe, La Strada and Del Ray Cakery.
Black Couch Brewery will provide its locally brewed beers and Monarch Title will donate other beverages. There will also be an outdoor lounge with several bonfires and live Latin jazz. Sounds intriguing, right?
So why should you be interested in the MVCS fundraiser if you don’t have kids at MVCS? Simple: The event will take place at one of the amazing homes from the 2012 House and Garden Tour. Chock full of DIY creativity and ingenuity, this was one of our favorite spots on the tour. If you missed the tour, or just want a second look, here’s your chance to see a true Del Ray delight.
But if you’ve been reading DIY Del Ray for a while, you’ve probably already gotten a sneak peak at the house. Earlier this year we featured the enchanting girls shared bedroom, a marvel of kid-friendly interior design, storage and organization.
Leslie recently wrote about homeowner Christi’s mosaics (seen throughout the Alexandria area). At the fundraiser you may even get an up-close look at her stunning backsplash and staircase—inspiration for your own mosaic project perhaps. Many more surprises await inside.
A climbing structure is a recent addition to the backyard. Can’t wait to see how they decorate it for the evening. At last year’s fundraiser, this area housed the bar and a display of the many items up for raffle.
This year’s raffle prizes include:
- Two tickets to Del Ray Pizzeria’s next “Beer Dinner” (specialty beers paired with a multi-course dinner);
- Personal shopping party at Kiskadee; and
- Gift certificates to Taqueria Poblano, Mind the Mat, La Strada, Let’s Meat on the Avenue, Old Town School for Dogs, Little Theater of Alexandria, Crave and more!
Look carefully around the backyard for other clever ideas to replicate in your outdoor space such as hanging baskets attached to a bench—great for small and large gardens and patios.
The weather forecast looks perfectly autumnal, ensuring a fabulous night to enjoy delicious food and drink and support our kids and community. Hope to see you there!
Tickets are $30. Proceeds will support technology and literacy programs at MVCS and help the PTA create a vibrant and enriching place for students to learn. To purchase tickets and for additional information, visit http://www.mvcspta.org.
