 Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia, seeks an organized, self-directed and energetic person who enjoys working with children and young people, and is committed to helping them to grow spiritually and become active members of our community of faith.

Emmanuel is a welcoming, open-minded and open-hearted congregation that is blessed with over 350 individuals and 125 families who share a community-wide curiosity about our faith and how best to live it out.  We currently have 45 registered students spread across three elementary Sunday School classrooms and one Middle School/High School Youth Class.

The Director of Spiritual Formation for Children and Youth (DSFCY) will be responsible for recruiting, coordinating and supervising the lay leaders of Sunday School, Youth Class, and Confirmation Classes, as well as other activities and programs involving education and Christian formation.  The DSFCY will be present in the Sunday School classrooms and fill in for absent teachers.

The DSFCY will be responsible for curriculum evaluation and will help the Sunday School teachers and other lay leaders make full use of the multimedia capabilities in our classrooms. Innovative approaches to this important ministry are very welcome.

Ideal candidates will have strong organizational and administrative skills, solid communication skills that will allow for vibrant teaching and interaction with parish families, enthusiasm for children and youth, and creative ideas to expand the children’s and youth curriculum. Experience working with children and youth is desirable.

 This is a part-time position averaging 15 hours a week including Sunday morning when Sunday school is in session. Weekday hours are flexible. Compensation commensurate with experience.
