Work on New Walgreens Could Begin Soon

Mount Vernon Avenue antique dealers close Sunday. J&M Electronics relocates.

Potomac West Interiors and Antiques and Not Too Shabby Consignments will officially close on Mount Vernon Avenue and the end of Sunday, July 28.

The antique dealers began their farewell last weekend with a goodbye party and the start of a moving sale.

The antique dealers are exiting their current digs to make way for plans to build a Walgreens in the entire retail strip at 1509-1517 Mount Vernon Ave.

Alexandria Economic Development Partnership personnel were unaware of Walgreens’ immediate plans this week. With all the businesses vacating at the end of the month, work on the new store could begin soon.

On June 18, Alexandria issued a permit to the developers of the Walgreens project to perform $800,000 worth of interior renovations to the retail strip.

On Aug. 10, Potomac West and Not Too Shabby will open a new shop south of Alexandria under the new name Evolution Home at 6239 Shields Ave., just north of the Kings Crossing Walmart and Chuck E. Cheese’s.
