Specialty grocery store The Fresh Market will open at Bradlee Shopping Center at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29.

The Fresh Market is opening in the former Giant grocery store space at 3680 King St. The Giant closed in June 2013 after 59 years in business at the location.

The opening festivities will include chef demos, free samples and prize drawings. The first 1,000 customers will receive a sample-size bag of the company’s coffee and a reusable shopping bag.

The new store, The Fresh Market’s 12th in Virginia, will include a bakery, meat counter, a produce selection with hundreds of items and a large selection of organic choices.

Alexandria Economic Development Partnership officials have spoken with The Fresh Market in the past about potentially moving into the Giant grocery space on E. Monroe Avenue. AEDP has shopped the Monroe space to potential tenants given the likelihood Giant closes vacates the location once it opens a new store at the Notch 8 development at Potomac Yard in 2015

Wonderful to have a lovely grocer back in our neighborhood. Today we have a great experience by receiving free reusable bags, coffee & loads of goodies throughout store. Staff knowledgeable, ambient atmosphere warm, merchandise cleaver, great produce & fresh plants galore. Parkfairfax Resident
