Report: S. Glebe Road Harris Teeter to Reopen in October

Grocery store is undergoing a complete renovation.

The Harris Teeter on S. Glebe Road just north of Alexandria will reopen in October, according to ARLnow.

The grocery store has remained closed since May 2012 following an interior flood caused by a sewage backup.

According to a March release from the company’s Charlotte, N.C. headquarters, the location is undergoing a complete renovation with a new floor plan and equipment. The renovation includes a redesigned pharmacy.

Sarah Maiellano, a resident of the Eclipse condominiums located above the store, delivered 415 signed letters to the Arlington County Board in March asking the local government to "take any and all actions necessary to hasten the reopening" of the popular grocery store.

Elected officials and county executives that day pledged to do everything in their power to hasten the store's reopening, including expediting any permitting issues.

Harris Teeter announced a fall 2013 reopening two days later.

Harris Teeter is now hiring personnel for the store, according to a number of online job listings posted over the past 10 days, according to ARLnow. The store reapplied for a Virginia ABC wine and beer license and keg permit on Monday.

In Alexandria, a new Harris Teeter is scheduled to open in North Old Town in early 2014. It is currently being constructed as part of a mixed-use development at 500 Madison St.
