Osteria 1909 Open For Dining

Scott family still waiting to secure alcohol license for new spot.

Osteria 1909, a new restaurant and wine bar operated by La Strada restaurant’s Scott family, opened Wednesday at 1909 Mt. Vernon Avenue.

Osteria is still awaiting its alcohol license, which Courtney Scott hopes will be obtained in a few days.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be open and can't wait to get the alcohol license so we can start serving drinks,” Scott said. “We have great bartenders who are eager to start mixing and pouring.”

The restaurant is currently open 11 a.m. to midnight.

Longtime D.C.-area chef Hector Guerra was hired to oversee Osteria in July.

The menu includes charcuterie, grilled steak and fish, hearty flatbreads, small plates, panini sandwiches, soups and salads.

The small plates include items like oyster rocco and grilled baby octopus.

Osteria will also serve weekend brunch with egg dishes incorporating lobster and prosciutto.

“Everything will be fresh. No freezer or microwave,” Guerra told Del Ray Patch in August.

Though Osteria is located directly next door to La Strada, the two places will be kept separate. Storage and kitchen space will not be shared.

The Scotts hired a local design team to give the cozy space a unique look. Along with an angled 26-foot bar, Osteria will has a minimalist decor styled in warm brown, black and tan colors. They’re still waiting to install televisions at the bar.

Del Ray Patch will have more about Osteria 1909 once its bar is stocked.
