The Walrus Oyster & Ale House, a 6,700-square-foot restaurant and bar from Fairfax-headquartered Star Restaurant Group will launch July 31 at 140 Waterfront St.; it's described in a news release as a "casual, moderately priced 150-seat seafood haven." An outdoor deck with water views will feature seating for 75.
The name for the restaurant was inspired by the Lewis Carroll poem The Walrus and The Carpenter.
Kris Carr is in charge of the venue's bar menu. The beer program will be locally inspired, with 14 brews on draft accompanied by tap white, red and rose wines.
The food menu for The Walrus will draw inspiration from Maryland’s seafood traditions, with D.C. chef and James Beard award-winner, Bob Kinkead, overseeing the culinary program as an advisor to the restaurant.
SRG’s Michael Sternberg says, “We’re thrilled to be launching our newest concept in the National Harbor. This restaurant is perfect for the area and will give locals and tourists alike a real taste of the Chesapeake.”
The Walrus will serve an all-day menu from 11 a.m. until closing, and Sunday brunch. The restaurant is currently hiring for all positions.
