Man Finds Port City Brewing's One Millionth Bottle

Alexandria's Port City Brewing celebrates its two-year anniversary.

It was the golden ticket of beer bottles.

On Nov. 21, Alexandria’s own Port City Brewing Co. bottled its one millionth bottle of beer, put a special sticker on it and put it into back into the distribution system.

This weekend, Ross Armstrong from Haymarket walked into the brewery amidst Port City’s two-year anniversary celebration with the winning bottle. He received T-shirts, glasses and other freebies from Port City, Northern Virginia Magazine reported.

Port City opened in January 2011, brewed its one millionth bottle in November 2012 and has grown its distribution by leaps and bounds.

The June 2012 derecho even presented the brewery with an unexpected opportunity. A prolonged power outage in the aftermath of that straight-line windstorm produced an unexpected treat: Port City Brewing Company’s Derecho Common Beer, WTOP reported this fall.

Brewery founder Bill Butcher . The Obama administration produced a video on Butcher and Port City as an example of how the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act helps small businesses.

Port City Brewing is based in Alexandria’s West End at 3950 Wheeler Ave. Public tours are available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the tasting room is open Wednesday through Sunday.
