Carluccio's, a London-based restaurant and gourmet grocery group, will bring its first U.S. location to a prime spot in Old Town Alexandria, according to a recent report by Washington Business Journal.

Carluccio's is a chain of restaurants, most of them located in the United Kingdom, that gets its name from original owner Antonio Carluccio, an Italian chef and restaurateur who sold the business four years ago to Dubai-based Landmark Group. Carluccio, an author of numerous cookbooks, is now a consultant with the company.

Here's what Carluccio's has to say about its coming debut in Alexandria, on its U.S. page:

"Carluccio's is proud to announce its first U.S. Caffè, Restaurant and Gourmet Grocery will be opening later this year in the stunning, Italian-inspired 100 King St. building, located by the beautiful waterfront in Old Town, Alexandria. Check back soon for more exciting developments. Or take a look at our full site for more information about Carluccio’s and our other locations around the world. Ciao!"

Carluccio's describes its restaurants as "an Italian café, restaurant and food shop, renowned for bringing authentic and traditional Italian cooking and ingredients to families in a relaxing and friendly environment."

Washington, D.C. boutique architecture and design firm STUDIO3877 is working on renovations of the building at 100 King St. David Tracz, AIA, LEED AP, partner, is leading the project. He specializes in multi-family, high-end residential, hospitality and restaurants. STUDIO3877 has completed projects throughout the United States and Europe.

STUDIO3877 meets May 21 with the Old & Historic Alexandria District Board of Architectural Review to discuss signage, etc.

The location is a former home to other restaurants including Red Curry.

The property is owned by Douglas Development.
