Free YMCA Workouts for Furloughed Feds

Metro-region YMCA's, including the Alexandria branch, are offering complimentary guest passes for furloughed federal workers.

Furloughed federal workers can burn off that free pulled-pork sandwich from Pork Barrel BBQ with free workouts at the YMCA Alexandria.

The YMCA is offering complimentary guest passes for furloughed feds at all of its locations in the Washington DC region for the duration of the government shutdown. The deal includes all YMCA classes, too.

The Alexandria gym, located at 420 E. Monroe Ave., is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

An estimated 800,000 federal workers were furloughed Tuesday after congressional lawmakers failed to strike a spending deal by midnight Monday. It's the first government shutdown in nearly two decades.
