Evening Star to Celebrate 15th Anniversary with Weekend Celebration

Beginning Aug. 3, restaurant will host a dance party, barbecue, fundraiser for the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria and more.

is celebrating its 15th anniversary next month with a weekend of special events featuring fun, food, drinks and a bit of toe tapping, too.

In honor of the decade the Star opened its doors, the celebration will kickoff at 6 p.m. on Aug. 3 with a dance party in the No. 9 Lounge featuring hit tunes from the 1990s (Mark Morrison, anyone? Maybe 4 Non-Blondes? What about "a game of horseshoes?"). The bar will be stocked with complimentary snacks and specialty cocktails mixed by a guest bartender, who is described only as a blast from the past.

The dancing will be followed on Aug. 4 with a BBQ Block Party featuring live music from noon to 5 p.m. Chef Jim Jeffords is planning a menu that will feature ribs, housemade half-smokes and other barbeque specialties. Regional breweries Port City, DC Brau, Lost Rhino and Blue Jacket and Devil’s Backbone will be on hand. Port City will officially debut its Derecho Common, a steam beer inspired by June’s storm. There will be no admission fee to the block party. Food and drink tickets will be sold separately.

To fight off your block party hangover, the Star will be offering complimentary coffee and beignets on its patio from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 5 with a donation to the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria. For dinner that evening, the Star will offer a two-course supper for $19.97—a price in honor of the year the Star opened its doors—beginning at 5:30 p.m.
