CycleStudio Suspends Operations

Spinning and yoga studio hopes to recommence operations at another time.

CycleStudio, a fitness studio specializing in spinning and yoga on Potomac Greens Avenue, abruptly suspended operations on Sunday.

The studio hosted classes on Sunday morning but then closed by that afternoon. Customers received emails saying CycleStudio had ceased operations and was in the process of determining a refund policy.

“We regret to inform you that CycleStudio must immediately suspend operations,” a message reads on the CycleStudio website. “While we determine our next steps, we are developing a refund policy, and will be contacting those customers who may be entitled to refunds. We apologize for the inconvenience that our situation has caused and we hope to be able to recommence operations at another time.”

Messages sent from Patch to CycleStudio have not been returned.

The studio opened in May of last year next to in the commercial development just off Slaters Lane.

I was at a cycle-pilates class from 11:15 am - 12:30 pm on Sunday and they (the instructor and the receptionist) gave no indication whatsoever that they were going to be shutting down in a couple of hours... anyone know anything else about this?
Kate Moran May 15, 2012 at 06:58 pm
I don't think the instructors or receptionist knew it was coming either, a friend of mine was a teacher there and loved it. I think they need an investor to remain open??

I'm so bummed about this! Can't believe I have to find a new place for those awesome 5:45am workouts. I haven't been able up find info about this anywhere! I was also at the 11:15 class Sunday.
Anyone have recommendations for going elsewhere?
Nichelle May 16, 2012 at 01:47 pm
I was in a class on Saturday and the instructor spoke about upcoming classes and even said "See you next week!". I think they were blindsided as well. Anyone know anything about refunds yet? I bought a groupon and unlimited class pass and haven't heard anything from them. NOT HAPPY!

X Sport Fitness on King Street (near I395)is open 24 hours, and they have great classes. Not as close, but the instructors and classes are excellent.

Mind the Mat in Del Ray has early morning classes (6am yoga, only 10-12 bucks) along with many other types of specialized Pilates and Yoga classes, even classes for people with injuries or Boot Camps for more intense workshops. There is a Mind the Mat Del Ray and Clarendon. www.mindthemat.com
Shame about CycleStudio, I had heard great things about it!

Nicelle - contact Groupon and they will refund you your money.

It looks like the Alexandria Y has spinning, but I haven't been able to check it out yet. Does anyone know if any of Cycle Studio's instructors teach elsewhere? I'm really hoping to find some good spinning classes in the same general area as CS.

I was the Spinning/Pilates instructor on Sunday morning & learned about the closing that evening when a neighbor came over with the news. I didn't even get an email, and I have not received an answer to my email asking if I'm going to be paid for that class and the previous 2 weeks.
Mary Brereton May 16, 2012 at 10:16 pm
Emily, I teach Spinning, Pilates (mat & Reformer) and Club Strength at Old Town Sport&Health on N. Fairfax Street. And I know several people are CrossFit addicts & rave about their early morning classes.

I was a regular at CycleStudio and very disappointed by their abrupt closing and the fact that they didn't have the courtesy to let people know what was going on. They were bought by Energy Club in Shirlington quite a while ago, maybe it was a corporate decision. Quite a few of Cycle Studio instructors teach at Energy Club, but I am not crazy about the bikes there, or the vibe.
Looking for another cycle studio near home or work, I did a Yelp search and found a brand new studio on in DC, 7th St, SE near Barracks Row called Biker*barre. They had a soft opening this week, with a full slate of classed this weekend and next week. It is 10-15 mins. from Alexandria, non-rush hour. I took two morning classes from two different instructors and both were great. They also offer a barre/ strength training type classes. Here is the website if you want more info: bikerbarre.com

Check out Revolve in Clarendon. The Instructors are top notch, the classes are high energy and creative (full body using weights and barre for lower body strength and stretching), and the bikes are good quality. Alex the manager is awesome - will invite you with a smile and help you out with whatever you may need!

I just purchased 10 rides for $160.00 and used my first one last Sunday at the 11:15 cycle-Pilates class and also have yet to be contacted about a refund. Just went to Revolve for the first time this morning and had an awesome workout.
GS May 22, 2012 at 04:21 pm
I just contacted Groupon and was told that I would receive a full refund for the purchase price of my 2 annual memberships. That's great news, but I'm so sad that Cycle Studio is gone!

Any chance it will reopen? None of these other places are the same- they all seem like gyms that you have to join.... so disappointing to see such a great place close.

Head's up monthly membership holders:
CycleStudio apparently has not canceled their automatic billing, because they just charged my credit card today for next month! Of course there is no way to reach anyone there. Having to dispute the charges with my credit card company is a major annoyance, so much so that now I kind of I hope they never do reopen. This is NO way to do business.
Barbara May 23, 2012 at 05:25 pm
Sarah, I think CycleStudio is owned by Energy Club in Shirlington- I wonder if they could help with the billing issue.
GS May 23, 2012 at 09:12 pm
If Energy Club is not of help, you could try contacting Cycle Studio's registered agent (bankruptcy attorney). The agent's contact information is publicly available on Virginia's State Corporation Commission website by searching for Cycle Studio: https://cisiweb.scc.virginia.gov/z_container.aspx

I work in Chinatown and just came across a spinning and yoga studio opening in the area in a few months. It's called Art of Spyn and their website is www.theartofspyn.com I emailed them today and got a response right away- they seem to have a great class line up
Emily C May 24, 2012 at 06:26 pm
I checked with Energy Club and they did not own Cycle Studio, unfortunately

Treating mental illness and catching it early is particularly important in a State like ours thatRead More has concealed carry gun laws. If we look at the examples of murders in Virginia that were committed by people with concealed carry permits, we will see that they frequently involved the murder of family members. Perhaps early intervention and treatment might have saved lives in these cases. We know the chances of strengthening gun laws in Virginia are next to nil, so we had better start looking at ways to make sure that the people who legally have the guns are mentally and emotionally equipped to do so.

I believe that Del. Krupicka's forum on this very important subject will be held on Saturday, MayRead More 18, starting at 11:30 at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St. (west of Route 1 near the Beltway).

A vote for Bryan Porter will be a vote to continue in the corrupt path that the City of Alexandria'sRead More Judicial System is on - We have Judges - Kemler, Dawkins and Clark who rule on Favoritism and Cronyism instead of the laws and the rules of the United States Constitution, the Virginia Constitution and the Supreme Court. Most cases that enter the courts in the City of Alexandria have been decided prior to going to trial. It is the attorney that can help one of these Judges that will win for his client - and for those attorneys that don't play the game - they will always loose and so will there clients - and they can be as has been done in the past threatened with bodily harm - Chicago has been known as the City of " Pay to Play "- Alexandria and the democrats are no different here - The line "Pay to Play" represents the Judicial System in Virginia and the City of Alexandria -

Looking at the satellite view, it seems there are great huge piles of condos and apartments to theRead More east, southeast (across Duke and Van Dorn) and northeast (across 395). The key to success is to put in the needed pedestrian and bicycle connections.

Excellent example regarding Cameron Station. The thinking was that the commercial strip would beRead More supported by the residential areas within Cameron Station. It didn't really work. There are a few businesses that serve the community, but it's nothing like the architectural renderings depicted. The new Landmark will be similar, but with even fewer residents to pull from. As Jonathan points out above, a mere look at Google Earth reveals large residential areas that Landmark should be able to pull from, but can't due to an outmoded road network that Hughes and City staff have not addressed in the first, and most critical, stages.

Shouldn't the New High Street Bridge handle the pedestrians? How about a pedestrian bridge fromRead More EOS21?

You did a wonderful job Susan. ACPS was lucky to have you.

The students of Alexandria benefited greatly from your leadership of the Scholarship Fund ofRead More Alexandria. Alexandria City Public Schools is losing an exceptional employee and individual.
lynnhampton April 21, 2013 at 12:10 pm
Under Susan leadership the fund grew scholarships in both size and quantity. This is a greatRead More accomplishment. But Susan also inspired students to go to college. TC students learned how to apply for additional scholarships and financial aid. TC students helped with fund raising and the telethon, providing their own skin in the game. TC students get help in preparing personal statements for the college entrance process. When you see the students receive their scholarship, you begin to understand how Susan and SFA inspires our kids. Congratulations to Susan for an amazing run. Our many TC grads have you to thank for successful careers.

I think a Barnes & Noble should move onto the Avenue to compete with our new Little FreeRead More Library, forcing it to become more competitive. #Walgreens Obviously I'm kidding. This is a wonderful addition to our little neighborhood. There are so many nice things about Del Ray they no longer surprise me. I simply think to myself "Yep, That makes since in this neighborhood."
Lewis April 18, 2013 at 06:36 pm
Well put, and I'll join you in contributing a few books.
Cathy April 18, 2013 at 09:58 pm
Awesome! I was wishing we had one in the neighborhood. I was thinking of starting one myself, butRead More lacked the tools and skills to build one. I'll bring over some books for it sometime. (Love the poetry fence, too.)
James Dunning April 13, 2013 at 04:34 am
David, So the moral of the story is that the next time you and your boyfriend are randomly walkingRead More around a dog park scared and confused about dogs (without dogs of your own) one should have a cell phone? I am so confused. You and you partner enjoy wandering around dog parks, without dogs of your own, and without a mobile phone. What else is missing in this relationship, condoms? For the sole purpose of whining on this forum? Can I get your job by chance? You seem to be low work output, sounds like a fed employee.
Leslie Hagan April 13, 2013 at 05:00 am
Mr. Dunning, My husband died six months ago.
