A Metro train traveling through Alexandria was struck by a piece of track equipment early Thursday morning, according to The Washington Post.
At around 12:38 a.m., the equipment hit a passing Blue Line train with passengers onboard in the Potomac Yard area between Braddock Road and Reagan National Airport stations.
No passengers were injured in the incident. The train was delayed about 40 minutes so Metro officials could conduct an inspection of the train after it was hit.
Crews were working to replace ties along the tracks and the personnel involved in the incident was suspended and taken out of service.
