Shelter Walk for Homeless Animals Raises $24,000

More than 350 walkers showed up at Market Square for the event, and a group of elementary school students got the prize for the most fund raising.

The Alexandria Shelter Walk for Homeless Animals held Sunday in Old Town attracted more than 350 walkers to raise awareness about pet over-population and animal homelessness.

The event was hosted by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and presented by Fusion Meetings and Events. It raised more than $24,000. The funds will go to supporting the homeless animals at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter.

The top fundraising team was the Lyles-Crouch Lions, a group of Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy elementary school students who collected more than $4,000. The Lions were recognized on stage at the event, and received a Party Boat Prize Package, courtesy of Potomac Riverboat Company.
