Del Ray restaurant offering free barbecue for a year for information that leads to the capture Houdini, a missing Australian shepherd.

The hunt for Houdini just got a little saucy.

Pork Barrel BBQ restaurant in Del Ray is offering free barbecue for a year to the person who provides information leading to the safe return of the missing Australian shepherd.

Houdini got loose Sept. 11 in the Del Ray area shortly after arriving from New Jersey. The white, brown and beige dog has since been spotted all over Alexandria, most recently Nov. 5 near Jordan Street in Alexandria’s West End.

“We were shocked to learn that after eight weeks Houdini is still out there and that the sightings continue,” Pork Barrel BBQ co-owner Bill Blackburn said. “We thought by offering this eye-catching reward it may bring some more attention to the search.”

Blackburn said Alexandria Councilman Justin Wilson came up with the idea of offering a reward. He challenged Blackburn to come up with something.

“We thought it was a great idea,” Blackburn said.

Houdini is very shy, and will run if chased. Anyone who sees Houdini is asked to call the “lost dog team” at (609) 805-1413 or (703) 618-1998. Updates on the search are being posted on the “Have You Seen Houdini?” Facebook page.

As with any reward, there is some fine print. The winner will receive one free pulled-pork sandwich a day for one calendar year. More information available at the Pork Barrel BBQ website
