Alexandria is blanketed in snow Thursday morning after a snowstorm that started Wednesday night that brought 7.8 inches to the city, according to snow totals posted Thursday morning by the National Weather Service.

The forecast for Thursday in Alexandria is for rain and sleet before 4pm, then snow. High near 34. North wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. 

Thursday night forecast is for snow, mainly before 2 am. Low around 27. West wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 3 p.m. Thursday for Alexandria.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Friday for Alexandria.

Friday is expected to be sunny with a high of 39 degrees.
