Patty Moran to Receive Joan White Grassroots Volunteer Award

Moran is a staple at community events in Del Ray like First Thursdays.

Del Ray resident Patty Moran will receive the Joan White Grassroots Volunteer Award on Friday night at Volunteer Alexandria’s Evening in the Heart of Alexandria at Gadsby’s Tavern and American Legion building on Cameron Street in Old Town.

The Evening in the Heart of Alexandria begins at 6:30 p.m.

A staple at community events in Del Ray like First Thursdays and the Del Ray Music Festival, Moran has spent the last seven years helping students at T.C. Williams High School get acclimated to their surroundings. She moved to Alexandria in 1976 and has been steadily involved with groups and events like Community Partners for Children, Carpenter’s Shelter, Art on the Avenue, the Titan Expo and the Scholarship Fund for Alexandria.

"Patty Moran is a woman who makes Alexandria a great place to live," said Realtor Jen Walker. "She works tirelessly on behalf of others. She is an inspiration to all. What would we do without her?" 

During her vacation time, Moran helps sort and distribute gifts to families in the Department of Social Services’ Adopt a Family program.

Lyles Carr will receive the Marian Van Landingham Lifetime Service Award for his work in a variety of community organizations and being instrumental in the early development of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, ACT for Alexandria and Spring for Alexandria.

The 18th annual Evening in the Heart of Alexandria is chaired by Vice Mayor Kerry Donley and Councilman David Speck.
