Patch Picks: Celebrating St. Patrick's Day

A few picks from around Alexandria

Though Alexandria already celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with , there are still plenty of festive things to do on Thursday.

Here are a few suggestions from around the city:

Hit the bars — Lucky for us, Old Town is full of Irish pubs. Everyday is St. Paddy’s Day at , but judging by the countdown clock on the bar’s website, Thursday should be quite the party. There will be live music from Rocky Guttman and Pat Carroll and lots of Guinness. promises Irish meals throughout the day and more revelry and live music (John Longbottom) in the evening for a $10 cover. In Del Ray, the Kate Moran Band will be rocking out at the No. 9 Lounge above . Celeste Starchild will be holding court at . Remember to wear green and have a designated driver.

Irish cheeses — In Del Ray, has a wide variety of “Ye Olde” Irish cheeses available for purchase. Check out the fairly sharp Tipperary cheddar and the savory but stinky Gubbeen. In Old Town, has Irish Cashel blue cheese for your enjoyment.

March Madness — As Becky Sirpis reminded us in the Great Escape for moms and dads, the NCAA Tournament falls on St. Paddy’s Day this year. Check out her where you can catch your team.

Corned beef and cabbage — If you’re looking to stay in on Thursday, give this classic Irish dish a try. You’ll need some time to cook. Many area grocery stores, including on Duke Street, have the ingredients on display.
