NWS Issues Hazardous Weather Outlook for Northern Virginia

Snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

The National Weather Service on Sunday afternoon issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for cities and counties in Northern Virginia for Monday.  What's that mean?

The area could see 1 to 3 inches of snow Monday. The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang blog warns of possible sleet in some areas Monday.

Areas in the western part of Northern Virginia are likely to see more snow. Loudoun County is under a Winter Weather Advisory and is likely to see up to 4 inches of snow.

Here's the breakdown for Northern Virginia from the NWS:

  • Tonight: Rain, mainly after 11 p.m. Low around 35. North wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. 
  • Monday: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 9 a.m. High near 35. North wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. 
  • Monday Night: A chance of snow before 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
