Update: Crews Repair Water Main on Mount Vernon Avenue

Road closure could impact evening commuter.

10 p.m. Monday update — Crews remain working on a water main break in the 1800 block of Mount Vernon Avenue. The road is now open to through traffic, however crews remain in the street and drivers should use caution when approaching the scene.

Mount Vernon Avenue is closed between Monroe and E. Bellefonte avenues following a Monday afternoon water main break.

Local traffic is allowed in and out of the area as needed, but the road is currently closed to through traffic.

Police will open the road to traffic as soon as it is safe to do so.

Miss Utility crews were called to the scene at about 2 p.m. Monday.

Samantha Villegas, a spokesperson with Virginia American Water, said it typically takes six to eight hours to repair a water main break. Sometimes crews are able to repair the issue quicker, she said.

Villegas said about 20 customers, some commercial and some residential, will be without water until the issue is repaired.
