Grab and Go Kids Planner

Here are five free places to enjoy with your children that are just a short drive from Alexandria:  

 1. Huntley Meadows Nature Center in Fairfax County, just off Rt. 1 South, is a perfect place to hike and explore this spring. Look for beaver dams, tadpoles, all kinds of birds, snakes and more.   

2. Check out Clemyjontri Park and Playground in McLean. It’s a wonderful playground for children of all abilities. 

3. Visit Roosevelt Island, just off the northbound side of George Washington Memorial Parkway, to hike some trails and see the monument to Theodore Roosevelt. 

4. Milk a cow, feed chickens and pet other animals at Oxon Hill Farm, a working farm operated by the National Park Service just across the bridge in Maryland.

5. Ride the Metro to Arlington National Cemetery to watch the changing of the guard, learn some history and work on math skills.
