Five things to do with your child

Take a look at some of the wonderful playgrounds around Alexandria, some that you probably didn’t even realize were there:  

1. Blue Park, accessible from E. Rosemont Avenue, off of Commonwealth Avenue. 

2. The park and playground near Tucker Elementary School in the West End, just off S. Pickett Street and Edsall Road.

3. The Y playground near the YMCA on E. Monroe Avenue in Del Ray. It can also be accessed from E. Duncan Avenue.

4. The Lee Street Playground in Old Town, between S. Lee and S. Union Streets.

5. Beach Park behind Maury Elementary School (not the school playground) on Russell Road in Rosemont. It's also accessible from Johnston Place and North View Terrace.

The playgrounds at these local elementary schools are also very good, but remember you can’t use them during school hours: 

            Polk Elementary School, 5000 Polk Avenue

            MacArthur Elementary School, 1101 Janneys Lane

            George Mason Elementary School, 2601 Cameron Mills Road

            Charles Barrett Elementary School, 1115 Martha Custis Drive  

            Mount Vernon Community School, 2601 Commonwealth Avenue

            Tucker Elementary School, 435 Ferdinand Day Drive

            Maury Elementary School, 600 Russell Road
