First Thursday Postponed to June 20

With storms in the forecast, organizers push Del Ray street festival back a second time.

The Del Ray Business Association has postponed June's First Thursday street festival a second time because of the storms expected to sweep through Alexandria Thursday.

Massive storm systems are expected to sweep through the DC area in a one-two punch. One passed through Del Ray Thursday morning without much rain and another, more severe storm is expected in the late afternoon and early evening.

"For everyone’s safety including our four-legged friends, we are postponing again until next Thursday," DRBA officer Gayle Reuter wrote in an email. "We have so many fun events planned for this particular First Thursday, we just don’t want to cancel it completely."

The festival, which was initially scheduled to be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 5, will be held at the same time Thursday, June 20. Rain forced postponement on the first scheduled evening for the event.
