First Thursday Del Ray: Main Street & Nations Celebration

Families, kids, dogs, strollers, couples and seemed like just about everyone else turned out for Del Ray's First Thursday July 11.

And the rain held off.

A cake walk and live music livened up the parking lot on Oxford and Mount Vernon avenues that is home to the farmer's market on Saturday mornings.

But as pedestrians and cars crowded the avenue, unfortunately a Mercedes SUV and a yellow taxicab collided a little after 7 p.m. on Mount Vernon Avenue. Fortunately, the accident occurred right in front of the booth staffed by the Alexandria Sheriff's Department and law enforcement was on the scene in literally a second.

The cab passengers, who included a woman and infant, appeared to be unharmed. It was not clear if the cab driver was injured.

The scene was quickly attended to with some car pieces swept to the side of the road and the busy festivities went on as usual.

Dogs enjoyed treats supplied by Your Dog's Best Friend and kids enjoyed balloons provided by Virginia Commerce Bank, among many other vendors lining the streets.
