Mt. Vernon Avenue is looking ready for the holidays following the work of volunteers who adorned street-sign posts with garlands and ribbons over the weekend.
The Avenue is getting dolled up for presented by the Del Ray Business Association at 6 p.m. in the farmers market lot.
The men behind the Pork Barrel BBQ restaurant—which is —recently contributed a tree for the ceremony, one that is much larger than previous versions.

“Last year, they looked over and felt the community and kids needed a much bigger tree to light so they promised to get one this year,” DRBA officer Gayle Reuter wrote in an email. “[Pork Barrel BBQ’s] Mike [Anderson] rented a trailer and went out to a tree farm and cut down and bought a beautiful tree for Del Ray.”
The DRBA is still looking for volunteers to help distribute, light and extinguish the luminaries on Friday. If you’re interested in helping out, email Pat Miller at pmiller1806@comcast.net.
