Mt. Vernon Avenue is preparing for an invasion of ghouls, goblins, superheroes and a small army of costumed canines.
The 15th annual sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association begins at 2 p.m. Sunday. Last year, in the event, including more than 2,000 children.
Those interested in marching in the parade are welcome to start lining up south of E. Bellefonte Avenue beginning at 1:30 p.m.
This year’s parade will feature awards for best pet costume, best-decorated stroller, best-decorated business and best-decorated home. Contests will be judged by local officials from the present and past (no ghosts, however).

Awards will be presented following the parade during a brief ceremony in the field next to , where refreshments will be served and goodie bags for children will be handed out. Healthy goodie bags without candy will be available as long as supplies last.
Following the awards presentation, Mars Rodeo will perform and the Alexandria Jaycees will provide games and activities for children.
To register for the pet and stroller competitions, look for desks at the corner of Mt. Vernon and Bellefonte beginning at 1:30 p.m. Registration is not needed to simply participate in the parade.
Following the parade and festivities, will open its to children and families from 5 to 8 p.m. at 2213 Mt. Vernon Avenue.
The DRBA is still for in-need children to participate in the parade. The DRBA is also looking for volunteers to help stuff goodie bags at Mount Vernon Recreation Center at 2 p.m. Saturday and to help with the parade on Sunday.

Mt. Vernon Avenue will be closed to traffic and parking restrictions will be in place between Monroe and Hume avenues from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
