Animal Welfare League of Alexandria Holds 'Bark' to School Night

The event will also feature an awards presentation.

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is waiving adoption fees on adult animals for adopters that donate shelter supplies during the organization’s "Bark" to School Night on Thursday.

The open house adoption event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter, 4101 Eisenhower Ave.

The night kicks off the final week in the AWLA’s Back-to-School Adoption Event, which has helped animals find homes in time for the new academic year through various promotions and adoption discounts.

There will also be an awards ceremony to recognize two young entrepreneurs who raised money for the AWLA during the summer. Julia Burke and Virginia Kane, two seventh-graders, will be recognized for their summer fundraising efforts. The girls raised more than $1,000 by baking and selling “pupcakes” to the public.

Light refreshments will be served. More information about “Bark” to School Night and the ongoing Back-to-School Adoption Event can be found here.
