Alexandria Animal Shelter Gives 'Paws for Love'

The local shelter participated in the annual event on Capitol Hill last week to help dogs find their forever homes.

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria participated in the Paws for Love animal adoption event on Capitol Hill last week.

AWLA brought four dogs to the Valentine’s Day event and three of them are still available for adoption. AWLA spokesman Patrick Cole said many of the approximately 1,500 attendees at the event were interns or young professionals who might not be able to have pets or be ready for the responsibilities, but they are good candidates for the shelter’s foster care program.

Alexandria’s shelter brought dog Bunker with them to last year’s event. He was adopted and now comes to work on Capitol Hill every day. Bunker and his new owner stopped by last week’s event to say hello.
