Alexandria Animal Control Report: Little Dog With A Lot of Moxie

A glance at some recent incidents in Alexandria.

Animal Control officers in Alexandria deal with a variety of calls every week. Here's a glance at some recent incidents in the city courtesy of Patrick Egan of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

Running with the big dogs — While we’ve heard some raccoons are fond of SUVs, we were surprised to learn this week that a tiny dog wasn’t afraid of taking on one of Alexandria’s biggest and busiest streets.

On July 26, an Animal Control officer was dispatched to the unit block of N. Gordon Street in response to a report of a Chihuahua on the loose.

The small dog was spotted running at-large on the West End street and later making moves into traffic near Tempo Restaurant on Duke Street.

The officer was eventually able to retrieve the dog, but was unable to find its owner. The little dog was impounded at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter on Duke Street.

The Chihuahua’s owner was located on July 29 and the dog was returned to her home.

Goat remains — In case you missed it earlier this week, the remains of a juvenile goat were mysteriously discovered in an Alexandria park.
