Weekend Metro Delays, Track Work for Nov. 1 - 3

Metro's weekend track work schedule will impact the Red, Orange and Blue lines.

Metro's weekend track work schedule will impact the Red, Orange and Blue lines for the weekend of Nov. 1 - 3. Work begins at 10 p.m. Friday and continues through system closing Sunday.

There is no scheduled work this weekend on the Green or Yellow lines.

According to a Metro News release:

RED LINE

Trains will operate every 8 to 16 minutes from 10 p.m. Fri., Nov. 1 through closing Sun, Nov. 3.

Red Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Shady Grove and Glenmont: Every 16 minutes throughout the weekend
  • Additional trains between Grosvenor and Silver Spring: Every 8 minutes 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Work Performed: Crews will replace wooden ties, improve third-rail infrastructure and improve track conditions between Twinbrook and Grosvenor stations.

Travel Tips: Metrobus service may provide an alternate travel option for some riders.  To check, plan your trip using Trip Planner and select the "bus only" option.

Before traveling, consult the trip planner at wmata.com to check the special schedule and reduce your wait time. (Trip Planner is updated to reflect weekend rebuilding schedules on Fridays; please check on Friday afternoon or later.)  You will experience the additional wait time on the platform.  Once your train departs the station, it is not expected to encounter additional delays en route.

ORANGE LINE

Buses replace trains between Federal Triangle and Eastern Market from 10 p.m. Fri., Nov. 1 through closing Sun, Nov. 3.

Orange Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Vienna and Federal Triangle: Every 15 minutes throughout the weekend
  • Between New Carrollton and Eastern Market: Every 15 minutes throughout the weekend

Free shuttle buses will replace Blue/Orange trains between Federal Triangle and Eastern Market stations.Shuttle buses will operate on two routes:

  • Express buses will run between Federal Triangle and Eastern Market with no intermediate stops.  Allow 15 minutes for express bus service.
  • Local buses will run between Federal Triangle and Eastern Market with intermediate stops at Smithsonian, L'Enfant Plaza, Federal Center SW and Capitol South.  Allow 8 minutes of travel time for each stop.  For example, a rider traveling between L'Enfant Plaza and Federal Triangle should allow 16 minutes because the bus makes two stops.

Stations Closed: Smithsonian, Federal Center SW, Capitol South (L'Enfant Plaza open for Green and Yellow line service only)

Work Performed: Tunnel repairs, station dome repairs, track infrastructure improvements, fastener replacement, joint elimination, drain cleaning, signage installation.

Travel Tip: Riders transferring between the Green/Yellow lines and the west side of the Blue/Orange lines may wish to travel by way of Gallery Place and Metro Center (via Red Line).

BLUE LINE

Buses replace trains between Federal Triangle and Eastern Market from 10 p.m. Fri., Nov. 1 through closing Sun, Nov. 3.

Blue Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Franconia-Springfield & Federal Triangle: Every 15 minutes throughout the weekend
  • Between Largo Town Center & Eastern Market: Every 15 minutes throughout the weekend
