Tornado Watch Issued for Alexandria Through 5 p.m. Monday

Conditions exist that could produce tornadoes through 5 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of the greater Washington area, including the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Manassas and Manassas Park and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William and Loudoun counties.

A tornado watch means conditions exist that could produce a tornado. A tornado warning means a twister has been spotted.

The watch is in affect until 5 p.m. Monday.

The Capital Weather Gang reports a forecast that includes a 30 percent chance of two or more tornadoes hitting the region and a 20 percent chance of a large tornado.

Northern Virginia could see heavy rains and possible thunderstorms Monday afternoon thanks to a cold front moving into the area.
