Christ Church Celebrates George Washington’s Birthday

Alexandria, VA, February 16, 2014 — Sunday, February 16, Christ Church will celebrate George Washington’s Birthday with his personal Bible at all worship services. Christ Church will continue the celebration by marching in Alexandria’s George Washington Parade on Monday, February 17. “Children, youth, and kids at heart of all ages are invited and encouraged to participate,” the Rev. Heather VanDeventer.

George Washington first visited Christ Church July 4, 1793. He had served on the vestry at Fairfax Parish in 1765 prior to Christ Church being built. One of George Washington’s Bibles was presented to Christ Church by George Washington Parke Custis April 12, 1804.

Christ Church is a historic church with an active congregation. Located at 118 N. Washington St. in Alexandria, VA, Christ Church is home to 2,400 parishioners and provides ministry to communities local and global.
